The Student's Guide to Exam Success

The Student's Guide to Exam Success
PDF | 225 Pages | 1.29 MB

When I started writing this book, I went to a library and, as part of my research, collected ten books on how to pass exams. As he checked the books out, the librarian glanced sternly up. I could predict what was coming, because it was May, and I look young enough to pass off as a 20-year-old. ‘Now, dear girl,’ he commanded me over his half-moons, ‘make sure you don’t waste all your time reading these books, and get down to some serious revision.’ I relate this episode because it impressed upon me how quickly people can jump to the wrong conclusions unless they seek out the underlying context first. Without this, they are likely to do more harm than good. It also reminded me how many of us enjoy exerting power over others weaker than ourselves.

Students are often singled out for such attention, since, as anyone who has ever put L- plates on their car will confirm, the learner status often arouses superior attitudes in others. People, institutions, dare I say even governments have been known to take liberties with students that they wouldn’t dream of taking with other intelligent adults.

Had this chap been genuinely concerned about what he believed to be my exam neurosis, something less condescending might have passed his lips – for instance, ‘What is it about exams that makes us all so anxious?’ Even, ‘What the hell do you want all those exam books for – you look perfectly clever to me’ might have opened the channels of communication.
And indeed, had I been in the alarming state he imagined, a few sympathetic words on his part might have been a life-saver. Instead, he saw my ten books, saw me, thought, ‘Student with no confidence in herself at

If you are responsible for designing or developing enterprise-wide applications, departmental applications, portals, or any line of business application, then this book is for you. Many applications have a similar set of features, and this book builds an application with some of the most common features of enterprise applications. Let’s face it:

Every application has the same general set of features, but implemented in a different way. A database sits in the back end and you, as the developer, are responsible for enabling users to add, update, select, and delete records. If only it were that simple, no?

Basic College Mathematics:

Basic College Mathematics:
An Applied Approach (9th Edition)
Brooks Cole | 2010 | ISBN: 1439046964
 592 pages | PDF | 64MB

As in previous editions, the focus in BASIC COLLEGE MATHEMATICS: AN APPLIED APPROACH remains on the Aufmann Interactive Method (AIM). Students are encouraged to be active participants in the classroom and in their own studies as they work through the How To examples and the paired Examples and You Try It problems. The role of "active participant" is crucial to success. Presenting students with worked examples, and then providing them with the opportunity to immediately work similar problems, helps them build their confidence and eventually master the concepts.

To this point, simplicity plays a key factor in the organization of this edition, as in all other editions. All lessons, exercise sets, tests, and supplements are organized around a carefully-constructed hierarchy of objectives. This "objective-based" approach not only serves the needs of students, in terms of helping them to clearly organize their thoughts around the content, but instructors as well, as they work to design syllabi, lesson plans, and other administrative documents. The Ninth Edition features a new design, enhancing the Aufmann Interactive Method and the organization of the text around objectives, making the pages easier for both students and instructors to follow.

Reading for Thinking

Reading for Thinking
7 edition -Laraine E. Flemming
W..worth P..shing | 2011 | ISBN: 0495906395
704 pages | PDF | 17,1 MB

Incorporating a wealth of practice exercises and high-interest readings, READING FOR  THINKING focuses on improving reading skills at the "micro-level" and moving on to the  "macro-level." Over half of the book is devoted to evaluating, drawing inferences, and  identifying tone, bias, and purpose. The Seventh Edition continues to focus on developing  students' comprehension and critical-thinking skills.

Flemming uses a carefully designed  sequence of explanations and exercises that allows students to approach critical reading as  a natural extension of essential comprehension skills, rather than a discrete set of new  strategies. Armed with the ability to both analyze and evaluate a writer's work, students  apply those twin intellectual tools to Flemming's trademark high-interest readings to  determine purpose, analyze evidence, detect bias, recognize tone, and compare opposing  points of view. Vocabulary quizzes have been added to each chapter.

Enterprise Resource Planning for Global Economies

Enterprise Resource Planning for Global Economies
Managerial Issues and Challenges
Carlos Ferran, Ricardo Salim
Information Science Reference | 2008-04-04 | ISBN: 1599045311
420 pages | PDF | 3,7 MB

Local functional systems that create inefficient islands of information are being replaced  by expensive enterprise-wide applications that unify the functional areas; however, while  we have not yet been able to completely and seamlessly integrate across functions, we find  that the new islands of information are no longer functional but political, cultural,  linguistic, and geographical. The global village is a reality and enterprise resource  planning (ERP) implementations face new issues and challenges.

Enterprise Resource Planning for Global Economies: Managerial Issues and Challenges  provides authoritative research on the theoretical frameworks and pragmatic discussions on  global implementations of information systems, particularly ERP systems. This book offers  professionals, managers, and researchers who want to improve their understanding of the  issues and challenges that arise when information systems cross national boundaries with an  authoritative, essential research resource.

Management Accounting in Enterprise Resource Planning Systems

Management Accounting in Enterprise Resource Planning Systems

Publisher: CIMА Рublishing | 2009-06-26 | ISBN: 1856176797
PDF | 180 pages | 2.35 MB

Current evidence points to management accountants using traditional software (such as spreadsheets) for budgeting, ABC, balanced scorecards and other performance management techniques independent of, rather than integrated with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems.
While there has been some limited research on the effects of ERP systems on management accountants, this report provides a comprehensive analysis of the consequences of implementation of ERP systems for management accountants.

This report provides a theoretical basis for studying the impact of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems on management accounting and provides critical insights into the opportunities provided by ERP systems for the most efficient use of management accounting techniques.
The seven UK case studies of ERP implementations reveal the correlation between the success of the system implementation and the development of the role of management accountants in business partners thereby identifying the changes and skills required of management accountants.
The book provides guidance to management accountants on the changes they need to make in order to achieve the most from an ERP system implementation.

Written primarily for managers and consultants, this book is also an ideal reference for business schools and researchers.

Anyone still think that Adobe Photoshop Elements is a toy version of the real thing? As the most popular photo-editing program on the market, Photoshop Elements not only has Photoshop's marvelous powers, but also has capabilities the mothership lacks. Each new version includes more tools designed specifically for today's consumer digital photo enthusiasts. The latest edition, Photoshop Elements 5, solidifies the reputation of this superb and inexpensive product with new scrapbook features, a link to online photo services, and many other improvements.

In fact, there's so much to Photoshop Elements that it can be quite confusing at times. That's precisely why our Missing Manuals are the bestselling books on the topic. Adobe provides a pamphlet and some help files; our book, now in its fifth edition, carefully explains every feature the program has to offer (something no other book has done) by putting each one into a clear, easy-to-understand context. Photoshop Elements 5: The Missing Manual covers the Windows version of Adobe's workhorse and gives you the low down on a host of new features:
Learn to create multiple page documents, custom photo layouts with frames, and highly customized layouts for scrapbook projects
Master the new editor for Layer Styles, which lets you customize individual layers in a photo
"Attach" your photos to areas of a Yahoo! Map so your friends and family can see the pictures you took in specific places

Dialogue Editing for Motion Pictures:

Dialogue Editing for Motion Pictures:
A Guide to the Invisible Art
Publisher: Focal Press | 2007 | ISBN: 0240809181
 Pages: 384 | PDF | 12,18 MB

Dialogue editing is a crucial yet invisible part of filmmaking. Do it right, and no one notices. Do it wrong, and your film or video sounds messy, distracting, and unrealistic. This is a book for people who need to edit production sound for film, TV, or video but were never taught how to do it. It goes step by step through the process and covers all the workflows you are likely to encounter. Efficient working practices are emphasized throughout, so you learn to save time and avoid needless repetition.

Many dialogue editors are hobbled by a lack of understanding of the non-sound aspects of filmmaking. Unlike editors who cut effects, backgrounds or Foley, a dialogue editor's work is directly affected by what has gone on before. How a film was shot, recorded and edited will dramatically influence the dialogue editing process. Much of this book, then, deals with things which at first glance don't appear to be dialogue. You will find overviews of film picture and sound postproduction--film, tape, NTSC, PAL, 24p, and HD. There are summaries of film picture editing, OMF manipulation, and ADR management.
